The Pain Problem and New Solutions:
Did you know: Back pain is the #2 reason patients see a doctor?
For decades chronic and acute pain has been difficult to treat. Most physicians are typically recommending medications, physical therapy, and/or sometimes surgery to treat pain.

Did you know: Back pain affects nearly 80% of people at some point in their life?
Chronic pain not only inhibits sleep and activities, it has serious health consequences like disturbing the nervous system, disrupting the immune system, and ultimately affecting happiness.

Did you already try: Cortisone injections, medications, physical therapy, massage?
Cortisone injections and medications often don't work or even make the problem worse by suppressing the body from healing the injured tissues. Massage and physical therapy are great treatments but are missing an important component - treating the nervous system.

Did you know: Dr. Corbeille has a different approach - one that is individualized for each patient?
Dr. Corbeille combines specialized, high-quality injection techniques with other natural remedies to treat pain at the cause. Contact us today to inquire about your particular needs.

Prolotherapy

Prolotherapy is a type of Regenerative Injection Therapy, meaning that it helps to regenerate soft tissues in the body. It is helpful for pain because it is often these soft tissues (tendons and ligaments) that are contributing to or causing your pain - not usually the muscles! In this treatment, we use concentrated dextrose ("sugar-water") injected at specific locations to promote the tendon and ligament regeneration. When the soft tissues are regenerated and optimized, the joints have more support which allows the muscles to relax and the pain to let up.

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP)

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) is another form of Prolotherapy. In this treatment, we collect a sample of the patient's own blood, process it to collect growth factors, combine it with nutrients and ozone gas, and then inject it into the damaged tissues (tendons, ligaments, bone, skin, etc.). The growth factors support your body's own regenerative processes, while the nutrients and ozone add some extra nutrients to promote the healing of the tissues at a cellular level. Benefits from PRP can happen as quickly as 2-3 weeks after the treatment, but some don't see improvement until 4-6 weeks after the treatment. This seems to depend on your body's healing style and inflammatory status. Keep in mind that while we always want pain to improve, an improvement in functionality is also very important.

Check out these articles showing the efficacy of PRP for joint healing and pain reduction:

Prolozone Injections

Prolozone is a technique used to improve integrity and healing in various tissues by oxygenation. Prolozone is most commonly used on joints and on trigger points. In the case of joint treatments, Prolozone can use used preventively or as a treatment for an injured joint. The injection cocktail consists of a handful of ingredients to help increase blood flow in the area, nurture the nerves and cells to promote healing, and finally deliver the oxygen to the working cells. We have found that Prolozone works best when combined with other healing measures such as manual therapy, diet changes, and supplementation. Read more about ozone therapies here.

Perineural Injection Treatment (Neural Prolotherapy)

Perineural Injection Treatment (PIT) is treatment for neuropathic pain. Neuropathic pain occurs when the nerves are nutritionally deficient or damaged due to overuse, trauma, or whole-body nutrient imbalances. The goal of PIT is to target the damaged nerves with a dextrose solution. The dextrose binds to the nerves and instantly reduces or stops the pain signal, decreases inflammation of the damaged nerve, and also replenishes the nerve nutritionally so it can fire in a functional manner.

Trigger Point Therapy

Trigger point injections are useful for treating some types of pain, especially when muscular in origin. Trigger points are focal points in the musculature that, when treated, can allow the entire muscle to relax. Often this treatment is used in combination with other therapies (adjustments, acupuncture, PIT, Ozone Injections, etc.).

Neural Therapy

Neural therapy (NT) treatments are aimed at healing the dysfunctions of the autonomic nervous system. In this therapy, different parts of the body are activated or "reset" to change the firing pattern of the nerves to promote healthy signaling in the body. This therapy feels a bit like acupuncture for some people. Treatments at this level have the opportunity to heal chronic pain, deeper pains, adhesions (fascial and skin), emotional pains, and sometimes pain from scars or past traumas. This therapy is useful for many other conditions beyond pain as well (see the list below). Ozone injections are often used in combination with NT.

An article written by the NDNR, a naturopathic medicine newsletter, discusses the importance of treating scars and the benefits that could come from treatments at this level:  NDNR Neural Therapy Article.

Conditions Neural Therapy Can be Used to Treat:
  • Pain
  • Sinusitis (acute and chronic)
  • Detox
  • Digestive upset
  • Liver congestion
  • Scar treatment
  • Asthma
  • Kidney health and detox
  • Insomnia
  • Stress
  • Fatigue
  • Multiple Chemical Sensitivity
Common Treatable Pain Conditions:

  • Neck and shoulder pain
  • Hip, knee, and ankle pain
  • Sciatica and SI joint pain
  • Tennis elbow/Golfer's elbow
  • Migraines and headaches
  • Jaw pain/facial pain/TMJ pain
  • Plantar fasciitis, other foot pain
  • Pelvic pain
  • Pain from scars

What should I expect with the treatments?

The injections are all very superficial (not very deep). The doctor will palpate the area of concern for an inflamed nerve. When one is found, the area is treated. Each treatment is administered quickly and with minimal discomfort to the patient. Because the treatments are individualized for each patient and specific for the area being treated, the number of sessions a patient will need to achieve pain relief varies widely but is usually between 2 and 10 sessions.

What are patients saying about these types of pain treatments?

Although skeptical, I received injection therapy for chronic low back pain. After two sessions, the back pain subsided and has not returned. Later I was treated again with injection therapy for a deep-tissue shoulder pain, and I experienced similar results. I would recommend this process of healing for anyone with muscular or nerve pain."
  - DC, 55 year old male
I have struggled with plantar fasciitis for over 5 years. It had gotten so bad that I missed out on activities with my kids due to not being able to walk for a long time. Some days, I even felt depressed about not being able to have the active lifestyle I wanted to have. I've tried cortisone injections, which were very painful and not long-lasting. Since seeing Dr. Corbeille, I am experiencing almost instant relief from my pain! My treatments are ongoing, but becoming less frequent as my body heals. I’m making so much progress! I now feel comfortable about making plans with my family that involve walking or standing for long periods of time. I personally feel like this treatment has been life changing!”
